Trust and risk: The role and relationship of the individual and civil society in fire prevention work
The fire damage prevention work is structured as a collaboration between various social actors, individuals and local and civil societies. A prerequisite for successful cooperation is that the various actors carry out their fair share – and that there is trust that the other actors will carry out theirs. At the same time, trust varies considerably between different municipalities and there is a downward trend in terms of trust in public actors. Given this, the question is what effect individuals’ trust in social actors and fellow human beings has on fire-preventive and fire-reactive behaviour. In other words, how is the behavior of individuals, civil society and volunteers before and/or during a fire affected by the trust levels of a local community?
